About Will Roberts
I am 55 years old and have been practicing as a counsellor and psychotherapist for the past five years.
My practice is based in Newport Pagnell, on the edge of Milton Keynes in North Buckinghamshire.
My clients tend to come from the local area, but also from Northampton, Bedford, Buckingham, Luton and places in between.
Will Roberts: Professional Information
I have completed five years of advanced clinical training in psychotherapy at The Berne Institute and am now a Certified Transactional Analyst which is recognised by UKCP (United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy) and BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy).
I am a member of UKCP (United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy), ITA (Institute of Transactional Analysis), EATA (European Association for Transactional Analysis) and ITAA (International Transactional Analysis Association).
Will Roberts: Prior Experience
Prior to becoming a psychotherapist I was a business trainer and training manager for a large multinational company, training people in negotiation, consultancy, sales and presenting.
The primary personal reward as a trainer for me was in seeing people learning and using new skills as a result of their training courses.
In working at a deeper level of psychology, I now see people gaining benefits in all areas of their lives.
Will Roberts: Counselling and Psychotherapy
The rewards for me now are similar, but at a deeper level as I see people changing their thoughts, feelings and behaviours.
I work contractually. That means that I only work to make the changes that both the client and I are agreed on. Sometimes a contract can be established early on and sometimes a contract can take time to be made clear. Indeed, understanding what a person wants and then being able to clearly articulate that want, can be a major part of the therapeutic process.
The main model of therapy I use is Transactional Analysis (TA) although I also use elements of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Gestalt and Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) where appropriate.
